Nothing reads quite like a genuine solid board underfoot, and it's the flooring we're asked for most often by clients restoring period stone villas in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan who want the floor to match the age of the house.

Solid wood flooring is machined from a single piece of timber — usually oak, ash or maple — and can be sanded and refinished several times over its life, which is why so many of the boards we lift and repair are 80 to 100 years old. We fit solid board by secret-nailing to timber subfloors or glue-fixing to concrete, and we sand and oil or lacquer on site for a seamless finish.

Solid wood does move a little more with humidity than engineered board, so we'll always talk you through the right room for it — living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms suit it well; bathrooms and rooms with underfloor heating usually don't.
