Choosing a wood floor for a Callander home
Callander has many traditional stone properties as well as newer homes. For older houses, we consider ventilation and the condition of suspended timber floors; for modern extensions and concrete bases, moisture readings and compatibility with underfloor heating may be more important.
Before recommending a floor, we look at the room, the existing subfloor, moisture conditions, door clearances and how the space is used. That matters because a floor that works well in a dry first-floor bedroom may not be the right specification for a kitchen, entrance hall or room with underfloor heating.
Preparation and fitting
A good finish starts below the boards. We check the subfloor for movement and unevenness, discuss any preparation required, allow timber products to acclimatise where appropriate and leave the correct expansion allowance. Depending on the product and substrate, floors can be floated, glued or secret-fixed.
We can provide a supply-and-fit service or fit suitable flooring you have already purchased. If you are unsure between engineered timber, solid wood, laminate or herringbone, we can explain the practical differences before you order.
