Herringbone is the pattern we're asked for most by clients renovating Georgian and Victorian villas in Bridge of Allan and Dunblane — it's the floor those houses were often built with originally, and it still reads as the most considered choice for a hallway or drawing room.

Laying herringbone accurately takes longer than a straight plank floor: the room has to be set out from a true centre line before a single board is fixed, and every cut end has to be square. We lay herringbone in engineered board (more forgiving of Scottish humidity) and solid board where a period property calls for it, along with chevron and basket-weave variations on request.
